All set for Gaelic football tournament in Muscat

Muscat: The Gaelic football teams from across the Middle East will descend on Sultan's School in Seeb on October 14 to take part in the ‘Clann na hOman Gaelic football tournament'.
According to the organisers, the teams from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Doha, Al Ain, Ruwais, Kuwait, Riyadh and Bahrain will compete in ladies’ and men’s championships.
Kevin Corrigan, Chairman of Clann na hOman Gaelic Football Club, said: “The club is delighted to be hosting the tournament which will see hundreds of people travel from across the GCC region with the goal of winning what will be a very competitive tournament.”
“We are also delighted to be able to showcase Gaelic Football in our adopted home in Muscat,” he added.
Gaelic football is the most popular sport in Ireland and while it has been played in the GCC for over 30 years it has become increasingly popular in the Middle East in the last 10 years. It is an extremely skilful and fast sport that has spectators on the edge of their seats. Over 1,000,000 people have attended the Gaelic Football Championships in Ireland over the course of this summer
Gaelic Football teams in the GCC are no longer the pursuit of just Irish expats alone. Many of the teams playing in the tournament will comprise of an array of nationalities who are working in the regions and have decided to try their hand at Gaelic Football or have played the sport previously in their home countries.
“The Clann na hOman Gaelic football club has had between six to 10 nationalities represented on its teams at different times over the last year,” the organisers said in a statement.
On October 14, action at the Sultan's School kicks off at 9.00 a.m. and the tournament is scheduled to conclude with the finals at around 3.30 p.m.
