Traffic expo focuses on children’s safety in Oman

Muscat: Hundreds more people attended and checked out the latest innovations in road safety and technology at the fifth Traffic Safety Expo, as the three day event entered its second day on October 19.
Besides the innovations, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) also disseminated information on new safety methods and techniques and displayed many of their initiatives in road safety, drug abuse, and children’s safety.
Apart from the above, the ROP Hospital and the Traffic Safety Institute also offered free first aid courses to all visitors.
Free medical checkups, nutrition advice, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) courses were offered to those visiting the expo.
The fifth edition comes high in the heels of the continuous and active campaign against road accidents by the ROP and private organizations.
The exhibition is featuring 59 private companies and 27 sponsors from the oil and gas, automotive, banking, traffic equipment, training, and construction sectors, 26 ministries and government bodies, five departments of the ROP, 6 wilayats, and 10 non-government organisations, taking up space of 16,000 square meters.
This year’s Traffic Safety Expo is focusing more on the education of children, both on and off the road.
Oman Expo organiser Melissa Daleja expects the exhibition to attract more than 60,000 visitors within just three days. Companies have set up attractions for children, as well as designated areas, especially meant for child interaction.
“The initiative of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) is to focus on road safety,” Daleja said. “Right now, they are encouraging more children to be a part of the awareness campaign. This is why they [ROP] are encouraging schools to take part in the exhibition.”
Three different schools will carry out a number of performances to express the importance of following the street laws, street signs and signals.
In addition to the education and entertainment elements, there will be a raffle draw with prizes that range from mobile phones to cars.
Ebrahim Taher, exhibition manager, Traffic Safety Expo, says “We are glad to manage Traffic Safety Expo for the second time this year, as this event is in line with our goal and strategy to support corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, especially the ROP’s continuous road safety awareness campaign.”
The exhibition doors will be open from 8.30am to 1.30 pm and from 4.00pm to 9.00pm every day.
