Omani-UK Joint Working Group meeting held in Muscat

Muscat: Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs received on Thursday Tobias Ellwood, Minister of State for the Middle East Affairs, who is chairs his country’s delegation to the 10th meeting of the Omani-UK Joint Working Group.
The meeting discussed areas of cooperation between the two countries and matters of common concern, as well as the political and security developments in the region. The meeting also discussed the situation in the region and the armed conflicts in some of the Arab countries, particularly the situation in Yemen.
The British Minister praised the Sultanate’s peaceful and humanitarian role in pushing for reaching peace agreement between the Yemeni parties.
The two sides expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the working group at various levels, stressing their permanent endeavour and commitment to continue supporting the friendly relations between them to serve the two countries.
The meeting was attended by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry, Head of the Omani side in meetings of the Joint Working Group and Jonathan Wilks, UK Ambassador to the Sultanate.
Working Group meeting
The Omani-UK Joint Working Group held its 10th meeting at the Foreign Ministry as the Omani side was led by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry whilst the UK side was led by that country’s Minister of State for the Middle East Affairs.
The meeting dealt with the existing friendship relations and the constructive cooperation between the Sultanate and the UK in various political, economic and cultural fields, as well as keenness of the two countries to continue supporting of those areas and encouraging development of trade and investment partnership. The two sides also exchanged viewpoints on a number of current regional and international issues and keenness of both sides to continue the hard work to come up with re-conciliatory political solutions through dialogue and peaceful negotiations to achieve security, and peace and an environment where understanding and harmony prevail.
The meeting was attended from the Omani side by Sheikh Yahya bin Abdullah Al Fanna Al Araimi, Head of the Economic Affairs Sector, Aflah bin Sulaiman Al Ta’ee, Head of West Europe Department, Abdulaziz bin Mossa Al Kharousi, Deputy Head of the Secretary General Office, whilst it was attended from the UK side by Jonathan Wilks, UK Ambassador to the Sultanate and officials from both sides.
