Golf Citizen to sponsor Arab Golf Championship in Oman

Muscat: Golf Citizen has teamed up with the Oman Golf Committee (OGC) to sponsor the Arab Golf Championship to be held at Ghala Golf Club in Muscat from November 9 to 12, underlining its commitment to bringing golf business to the forefront of digital technology.
Held under the auspices of the Arab Golf Federation, the blue-riband event will see the region’s top talent convene in the Omani capital to battle it out for their moment in the spotlight.
Golf Citizen’s new tie-up with the Oman Golf Committee will help create a platform for the Sultanate’s golf clubs, Ghala Golf Club included, to join the fast-expanding network and sell times on one of the fastest growing online golf booking portals.
“We feel a sense of obligation to support all initiatives which target overall development of the game in the region,” said Mohammed Juma Buamaim, vice-chairman and CEO of ‘golf in DUBAi’ that has created Golf Citizen.
“The Arab Golf Championship is one of the longest-running events in the region and provides a springboard for the leading players to progress to the next level, the MENA Golf Tour for instance which is open to both professionals and amateurs.
“The Arab world is an increasingly important market for the game thanks to investments made in building courses of international standards, but we need a cohesive plan in place if we are to target qualification to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo as a more realistic goal.”
“It’s up to golf federations to identify the talent and develop a clear roadmap for stoking up competitive fire in the next generation of champions. They can always count on us as a team,” he added.
“Oman has made great strides in putting together a solid infrastructure for golf and hosting of international events there that strongly endorses the country’s commitment to broadening the base of golfers in the Arab world.”
“These are exciting times for us and we look forward to working with the Arab Golf Federation and OGC with the mutual goal of putting the region’s golf on the world’s sporting map,” he said.
OGC were delighted to forge a partnership with Golf Citizen.
“We have four top golf courses in Oman and it makes perfect sense to bring major tournaments there if we are to position our country as a golf destination,” Mundhir Al Barwani, Chairman of OGC, said.
“With Golf Citizen coming on board, we are better placed to realise our huge golf potential by promoting our golf courses on its network and boost in-bound tourism,” he said.
“We look forward to welcoming players from the Arab world and hope to deliver a tournament in sync with Oman’s growing reputation as a premier golf destination,” he added.
Being one of the fastest growing online tee time booking engines, Golf Citizen aims at realising huge golf potential by collectively promoting a richly-diverse array of golf courses on its network.
