Oman announces date for Municipal Council elections

Muscat: Municipal elections across Oman will be held on December 25, Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, Minister of Interior announced on Tuesday.
Preparations for the second municipal councils elections in the various governorates are already being intensified.
Registration of new voters for the purpose began on June 12. The Municipal elections are very important as they allow citizens to be involved in the municipal work and help develop their wilayats.
They also encourage voluntary work and responses to the needs of the citizens at the wilayat level. The municipal councils’ term is four years, thus allowing youths and those interested in voluntary and municipal work to engage in more meaningful and extensive communication with the citizens in the various wilayats.
