Oman's Ministry of Manpower retrieved OMR38,000 in favour of labourers

Muscat: More than OMR38,000 has been awarded in favour of labourers by the Ministry of Manpower (MoM).
After receiving several complaints on labour disputes, MoM took action and retrieved over OMR38,000 for labourers, who have had their rights taken away by employers. Salim Said Al Badi, director general of Labour Welfare at the ministry said, “In an effort to resolve the complaints, the ministry was able to retrieve OMR38,000 for several Omani and expatriate employees during September.” Breaking down the total amount retrieved, OMR16,800 was returned for unfair dismissal followed by OMR8,400 for end-of-service gratuity.
Those who did not receive their rightful wage also received a total of OMR7,200 and finally for other miscellaneous complaints, the ministry gave back OMR5,600 to the employees.
Since the beginning of the year, the Labour wDispute Department had received 1,945 complaints, of which 1,067 were resolved, while the remaining 878 complaints were referred to the responsible court for failing to resolve it at the ministry.
