#OmanPride: Winner of Spartan race in Oman jut seconds behind global top three

Muscat: A few days ago, the Sultanate witnessed the first XDubai Spartan race in Jebel Sifa, where over 1200 participants from all over the world took part.
The race consisted of over 20 obstacles spread over five kilometres, including barbed wires, high walls, an ice pool and a row of fire engulfed wood.

Coming out on top for Oman, Abdullah Khamis Al Farsi, who is not a stranger to these races, spoke exclusively to the Times of Oman about his triumph and experience.
Al Farsi was the top Omani in the race and finished fourth globally, only seconds behind the top three.
“This win means that I climbed further up the ladder of success, which will give me more opportunities to compete at a regional and international level,” said Al Farsi.
“It is also means that the Omani and GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) people are unique, and can succeed at anything,”
he added.
Participants endured hot temperatures and, depending on the obstacle, sudden temperature changes, as well as the difficulty of running on soft sand. Training is crucial to overcome the harsh race.
Talking about preparations, Al Farsi said, “My training regimen included a lot of physical and cardiovascular training as well as resistance training.”
“I also monitor my diet. I had to get some medical and physical tests done to check my stamina, balance and muscles for any abnormalities,” he added.
Giving advice to future participants, he said, “Always prepare earlier than the race correctly to bypass any difficulties you currently have. Make the body and heart get used to covering long distances without stopping.”
