Tennis: Khalid Al Aadi is new OTA chairman

Muscat: Quriyat Club’s Khalid Al Aadi was elected chairman of the Oman Tennis Association (OTA) during the general assembly meeting held at the City Seasons Hotel on Thursday.
OTA elected the new board for the 2016-20 period in a keenly contested elections with Khalid Al Aadi garnering 14 votes of the 25 clubs that participated, while Adel Said Al Za'arei won 10 votes and Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Yahmadi of Oman Club could get only one vote.
Oman's former and most popular tennis player Khalid Al Nabhani realised his dream of winning the OTA elections and becoming the vice-chairman.
Khalid Al Nabhani wanted to popularise and spread the game of tennis in the Sultanate and now has the mandate to do so.
It was a four-way contest for the vice-chairmanship, Khalid Al Nabhani representing the Nizwa Club won 12 votes to become the undisputed winner.
Abdullah bin Ali Mubarak of Dhofar Club garnered 11 votes, while Rashid Al Hashmi of Al Bashair Club claimed two votes and Salim Ahmed Abu Baker of Al Nasr Club drew a blank.
Mundhir Al Barwani of Muscat Club and Siddique Al Hashmi were the unanimous choices for the posts of the general secretary and treasurer respectively even before the general assembly.
Among the 10 candidates for the board membership, Saud Al Balushi (Al Musanna Club), Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Hassan (Salalah Club), Khalid Said Al Busafi (Quriyat Club), Moosa Ali Al Hinai (Bahla Club) and Ahmed Faraj Al Yafiei (Salalah Club) were the five winners.
Speaking at the general assembly outgoing OTA Chairman Motassim Al Zadjali thanked the previous board for their achievements during the previous period.
"I wish all the best to the new chairman and board officials during the next four years," he said.
Meanwhile, the newly elected chairman Khalid Al Aadi thanked the confidence of the clubs in him.
"We will work together and make efforts to further improve the game in Oman." he said. "We will work to spread the game and start work from the grassroots level."
He also promised to build tennis courts and facilities all over the country.
