Fatma Al Nabhani leads Oman to two medals at Arab Tennis Championships

Muscat: Omani star Fatma Al Nabhani led the Sultanate squad to two medals, a gold and a bronze, in the ongoing Arab Tennis Championships in Rabat, Morocco.
Fatma won the women’s singles gold before settling for a bronze medal in the women’s doubles in the company of Sara Al Balushi.
In the singles final, top-seeded Fatma had to overcome a late fight back from Tunisian Chiraz El Bechri before sealing the match and the gold medal with a 6-2, 7-5 victory.
In the women’s doubles, Fatma and Sara came up against a strong Moroccan pairing of Aziz Lamia and Diae El Jerdi in a semifinal encounter.
The Omani duo put up a great fight in the first set but failed to maintain their tempo in the second as they went on to lose their encounter by a 5-7, 2-6 margin.
Meanwhile, matches in the team championship were affected by rain on Saturday. Fatma had already won her first round match.
Oman delegation chief Salman Al Balushi, who is also the Executive Manager of Oman Tennis Association, expressed delight at the team winning two medals.
“These medals are gifts from the tennis fraternity to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and to the Omani people,” he said.
