Muscat: The new Bait Al Ghasham Museum, located in Al Shal’li village in the town of Afi in Wadi Al Maawil county, will be opened to the public after five years of renovation and remodelling.
Bait Al Ghasham is a house that dates back to the era of Said bin Sultan Al-Said, who was Sultan of Muscat and Oman from March 1807 to June 4, 1856.
Dr Saleh Al Fahdi, author and production director of the opening ceremony, believes that the museum is a testament to Oman’s rich history.
“We are used to old castles like Husn, but there are not many historical houses,” Al Fahdi said.
“It is an Omani historical house from over 200 years ago, it is a piece of the nation’s history,” he added. The house has been renovated and remodelled to imitate its original look and, according to Al Fahdi, visitors will be taken back in time.
Although the museum is 45 minutes from Muscat, visitors will be able to do much more than just observe. The facility will also conduct literary shows, art exhibits, and educational activities. Inside the museum, visitors can find stalls selling handmade goods.
“I think this is a great opportunity for those living in the community, because they will have new business opportunities,” Al Fahdi added.
His Highness Sayyid Assad bin Tareq Al Said, as the representative of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, will grace the opening with his attendance.
The Bait Al Ghasham Museum, which is one of the archaeological and architectural monuments that will serve various cultural purposes. The opening ceremony includes a tour of the exhibition of the artisans and an exhibition on special artistic photography.
Operetta performance
There will also be an operetta performance. More than 250 artists and a number of folklore bands, along with children from 30 states, will participate in the operetta, written and supervised by Al Fahdi.
The ceremony will be a two-day affair. Entry will be restricted to select invitees on the first day, and will be open to the public on the second day.
