Muscat: In 2015, a total of 7,724 people died in the Sultanate, according to the Ministry of Health’s Birth and Death Notification System.
Of the total, 6,404 were Omani and 1,320 were expatriates The Omani death rate is 19 per day compared to 18 and 17 in 2014 and 2013 while expatriate death rates remained constant at 3 per day.
According to the data, 1,955 people, of whom 1,511 are Omanis and 444 expatriates, died because of unidentified symptoms compared to 2097 in 2014.
1,690 died due to circulatory system diseases and 508 deaths due to external causes, such as traffic accidents.
North Al Batinah Governorate registered the highest deaths in 2015 with 1,534 followed by Muscat Governorate with 1,397.
On the bright side, live births have increased in 2015 with 86,286 registered births compared to 2014 with 82,981 newborns. In 2015, 79,926 newborns were Omani while 6360 were expatriates where in 2014 76,690 were Omani and the remaining 6291 were expatriates.
According to the data, there is a steady rise in births per day for Omanis with 219 recorded in 2015, compared to 210 in 2014 and 201 in 2013. Expatriates birth rates per day remained constant with 17 in 2015 as was the case with 2014 and 2013.
