Oman environment: Day off work on a mission to keep beach clean

Muscat: About 30 Galfar staff members spent Monday morning away from work, cleaning Ghubra beach. Each member had a trash bag and a cap to protect them from the blazing sun.
Kalesh Kumar, lead HSE, believes that as a society, it is our job to protect the environment and “save our earth.” “Even the people around the beach were happy to see a big group picking up trash. We felt very encouraged,” he said.
Bags full
Out of the 30 trash bags, 19 were completely full after only an hour and a half. Food waste products, such as BBQ sticks, both wood and metal, plastic bottles and plastic wrappers filled most of the 19 bags. Mahmood Al Manthari, from the Technical Committee of Airport Projects, said it is the public’s duty to clean after themselves.
“Cleanliness is very important, even in Islam. We should be taking care of the areas we are in, even if we are just in the house. It is very sad to see all this garbage, when it is such a beautiful place,” he explained.
