Majlis discusses Oman's higher education policies

Muscat: Majlis Al Shura discussed the statement of Dr. Rawya bint Saud Al Busaidiyah, Minister of Higher Education yesterday.
The discussion covered five main themes namely policies of higher education in the Sultanate, the strategies and the five-year plans, the colleges of applied sciences, the private higher education, the student accommodation at institutions of the Ministry of Higher Education.
Some Majlis Al Shura members presented a number of proposals that include cancelling the diploma certificate with scholarship system, approving admission tests to universities and colleges, providing soft loans for students and exempting outperforming students from study fees. The Majlis members also called on the Minister of Higher Education to simplify education procedures for the people with disabilities, review experiences of some countries especially in the majors that are relevant to certain types of disabilities.
Majlis held its 4th regular session of the 2nd annual sitting (2016/2017) of the 8th term (2015/2019) under the chair of Khalid bin Hilal Al Ma’awali.
Majlis Al Shura will continue discussing the statement of the Minister of Higher Education at the next session on Thursday.
