MUSCAT — Is Oman soccer going places? Well if all goes well, Claude Le Roy’s boys are likely to take on five-time World Cup champions Brazil on November 17 right here in Muscat, according to an agency report yesterday.

But when Times Sport approached Oman Football Association (OFA) to confirm the news, a top delegate informed that nothing had been finalised so far. “It is not official yet and local media there in Brazil has reported this.

“Even we came to know about this through a sports website but nothing on this matter has been finalised,” said Ahmed Al Habsi, of OFA speaking to Times yesterday.

OFA statement

But an OFA statement late yesterday noted that talks are on with the Brazilian Football Federation to organise the friendly. A confirmation on this is expected in the next few days. “We will inform the media as soon as we get the official confirmation on this matter,” the statement added.

If Brazil lock horns with Oman it will be three days after the world’s best team play England in another friendly in Qatar.

Three days before that, Oman will take on Australia in their crucial Asian qualification round at home.

The clash against Oman will be Brazil’s last international in 2009. It is learnt that Brazil will announce the squad on Tuesday for both these matches but coach Dunga is not expected to call up Brazil-based players whose sides are involved in the final stage of the Campeonato Brasilerio.

This should exclude Sandro Ranieri (Internacional), Adriano (Flamengo), Miranda (São Paulo), Diego Tardelli (Atlético MG), Diego Souza (Palmeiras) and Victor (Grêmio) all of whom were in the squad for the WC qualifiers versus Bolivia and Venezuela earlier this month.
