41,677 Omanis employed in private sector

MUSCAT — The number of nationals employed in the private sector establishments stood at 41,677 during the first eight months of this year.

Mahfoudh bin Hamdan Al Wahaibi, deputy director-general of employment at the Ministry of Manpower, said that the number of degree-holders employed in the private sector stood at 1,378, diploma holders 1,589 and secondary school certificate holders 12,861.

In the oil and gas sector, 3,948 Omanis were employed, 1,110 in the finance sector, 5,583 in the industrial sector, 3,139 in the travel and tourism sector, 13,441 in the contracting sector and 5,559 in the trade sector.

Al Wahaibi attributed the rise of the national manpower to the genuine partnership between the public and private sectors and the young Omanis’ earnest desire to join the Omani private sector which is looking for qualified Omani youth.

As number of jobs are available with the Ministry of Manpower in the economic and service sectors.

Young Omanis who wish to work in the private sector may approach the 19 labour offices across the Sultanate’s various governorates and regions to register their names, he said.

He said the number of young Omanis employed in the private sector had increased in the past years, in response to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said’s directives and owing to the economic boom in the Sultanate and the economic ventures being undertaken in the country.
