MUSCAT — The students of Melody Music Centre, recognised by the Associated Board of Royal School of Music, London, have done well in their examinations.

Fifty students appeared for the theory examination and 160 for the practical. In the practical examination, 51 students achieved distinction and 45 accomplished merit. In the theory examination, 20 students got distinction and 15 achieved merit.

Krish Wadhwani, a third grade piano student and Koushik Murali, a first grade piano student, scored the highest marks in the practical examination, winning 135 and 134 marks, respectively.

In the theory examinations, Krish Wadhwani and Sujith Haridas scored the highest marks of 95 out of 100.

‘Enjoyment Through Achievement’ is a phrase that sums up the Associated Board’s philosophy, and earning a board certificate is a rewarding experience.

If you work hard to make progress in your music, you need some way of measuring your success and reassurance that you are on the right road. This is exactly what music exams offer.

Of course, music exams do not suit every one and exam syllabuses are not intended to provide a complete curriculum or choice of repertoire to the exclusion of all other music. All performers should explore a wide range of music to stimulate their interest and refresh their outlook.

The importance of music examination is not that children attain the highest levels in music exams, but that they gain a sense of having a structured goal to work towards that is viewed as a challenge or opportunity to improve their skills, and not just as an opportunity to display their competence.

Other than the structured syllabus and proper training, Melody Music Centre provides a stage for students to perform in front of an audience through their monthly programme called Ensemble. This will help students overcome stage fright and make them ready to perform without any fear and tension in front of the examiner at the time of the examination.

Through this monthly programme, the centre provides an opportunity for parents to assess their ward’s performance directly. This will also help the teachers identify the problems of each and every student while performing and rectify the same before examinations.
