Oman Mobile signs Mobile Spam Code of Practice

MUSCAT — Oman Mobile Telecommunications Company, Oman Mobile, continuously proves its lead and its commitment to customer-satisfaction by being one of the first few operators in the Middle East to sign the Code of Practice on Mobile Spam and the first in the Sultanate of Oman. The Mobile Spam Code of Practice is an initiative from the GSM Association (GSMA) and its member operators.

By signing this code, Oman Mobile is committed to the protection of a secure and trusted environment of mobile services and to ensure customers receive minimal amounts of spam sent via SMS and MMS. Ahmed Al Qurri, systems planning specialist, said: “Oman Mobile is joining forces with leading operators around the world and the GSMA to tackle all forms of mobile spam.”

He added: “This code is a proactive approach to collectively deal with mobile spam through set initiatives and recommendations, as well as cooperating with other mobile operators to share information and adopt measures that track the source of spam and minimise it continuously.”

Signing the code of practice also empowers subscribers by enhancing their security and mobile experience. Subscribers are presented with information and resources to help minimise the levels and impact of mobile spam, while providing them with an effective means to opt-out from receiving SMS or MMS marketing communications and to easily report unsolicited messages.

The GSMA Code of Practice is a voluntary treaty signed by operators who are committed to providing their customers with a great mobile experience. Under the code, mobile operators commit to including anti-spam conditions in all new contracts, establish a mechanism that ensures appropriate customer consent, work cooperatively with other mobile operators, undertake additional anti-spam activities, and encourage support from the government and regulators.
