MUSCAT — His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said has issued Royal Orders forming a Higher Committee to study and evaluate the current condition of theatre and drama in the Sultanate and to set a plan for development of this vital sector.

The Royal Orders formed the committee under chairmanship of Sayyid Ali bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, minister of the Diwan of Royal Court, and membership of a number of government departments and personalities, some of whom are taking memberships in their personal capacities and others as per their positions.

The Royal Orders forming the committee were within the Royal attention and care of His Majesty the Sultan with the cultural life aspects in the Sultanate, particularly in the field of theatre and drama, said the minister adding that they reflect His Majesty the Sultan’s personal follow-up and attention for the cultural aspect that receive the attention of citizens.

The committee is aimed at establishing an efficient Omani theatre capable of addressing all issues of concern to society taking into account the aspects of development and culture and the development in human and technical capabilities, he said.

The committee would shortly proceed with its tasks and missions and would benefit from the expertise in the field of the Omani theatre and drama, the minister added.
