MUSCAT — Bank Sohar has appointed Dr Mohammed Abdulaziz Kalmoor as its new CEO following the resignation of Nani Javeri on personal grounds. Javeri has been occupying this post since the inauguration of the bank. Dr Kalmoor will take charge as the new CEO from February 4, 2009.

Dr Kalmoor has been an integral part of the banking scenario for three decades. Qualifications and experience combine in equal measure in Dr Kalmoor. He completed his graduate studies with honours from the University of Essex, UK and holds a doctorate in Economics from the University of Colorado, USA. He joined the Central Bank of Oman in August 1978. He held the position of executive vice-president from 1995 until June 2000.

Dr Kalmoor’s experience has been enriched with involvement in several areas both within his work environment and outside. He has been a member of a number of national and specialist committees, among them, the Board of Capital Market Authority, Higher Education Council, Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation, as well as a number of economic and financial committees. The last professional position that Dr Kalmoor served was as the managing director of Oman Investment and Finance Co (OIFC).

In view of Dr Kalmoor’s high qualifications and outstanding working experience, the Board of Directors of Bank Sohar resolved to entrust him with the position of CEO. The board has no doubt that he will do his level best to elevate the stature of the bank in the light of the emerging external environment and the requirements of the ensuing phase of the bank’s development. The Board of Directors has placed on record their appreciation and thanks to the outgoing CEO for his outstanding contribution to the bank during its important initial phase.
