Syrian president leaves after two-day cordial, fruitful visit

MUSCAT — Syrian President Bashar Al Assad left yesterday at the end of his two-day visit to the Sultanate. The president was seen off by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

The two leaders, in a closed-door session at Bait Al Baraka yesterday, discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and issues of common concern.

Earlier, they reviewed regional and international issues and the resolutions of Doha Summit.

Dr Bouthaina Shaaban, Syrian president’s political and media adviser, said the talks between Bashar and His Majesty the Sultan were cordial, constructive, deep and fruitful.

Dr Shaaban added that the president briefed His Majesty the Sultan on the fruitful results of the Arab Summit at Doha and the Arab-South American Countries Summit regarding Arab joint action which is moving forward, and that Doha Summit has been one of the best summits the Arab countries have witnessed till now.

She added that Sultan Qaboos shared the opinion with President Bashar about Doha Summit, saying that Arabs have to change the mechanisms through dealing with each other in a scientific and practical way, thanking Bashar for the efforts he has been exerting since Damascus Summit in order to upgrade the Arab situation.
