MUSCAT: Oman’s tennis sensation, Fatma Al Nabhani said she does not intend to be heaved into the on-going mayhem at the Oman Tennis Association (OTA).

Speaking in an interview with Times of Oman, Fatma who will leave for Turkey today for the $10,000 Gaziantep tournament said she is more focused on her games than the ugly spat at the OTA.

“I am just focusing on my game and my future so I have nothing to do with this,” said Fatma (currently ranked 483), who is expected to go up in her WTA ranking to 300 after she reached the finals in a women’s tournament in Canada last week.

In Canada, Fatma Al Nabhani, who was seeded seventh, reached the final beating American Lauren Albanese 1-6, 6-0, 6-3, but lost to another American Julia Cohen (top seed) 1-6, 7-5, 7-5.

Although Fatma said she was severely hurt by the unexpected resignation of eight board members, the teenage star admitted that all is not well at the association.

“I am hurt by what has happened in the last couple of days because all these members were doing a great job,” she said.

“But I hope with a new body at the helm, tennis in Oman should have a great future,” she added. Speaking about her future, Fatma said with more tournaments on cards she will be carefully choosing the games to improve her rankings.

“There are so many tournaments for me this year but I have to be really careful in choosing them because it is important for me to play more games to improve my ranking but at the same time I should have a consistency of winning these games and also I should look after my fitness level so that I stay for the important games,” she pointed out.

It is worth mentioning that Fatma was ranked 1051 in 2009 and she is currently 483 in the WTA rankings.

“I never thought I would reach this level in super-pace time. Thanks to my parents, brothers and all those who have supported me throughout,” she said.

“There are so many talents in this country and I would say instead of dragging yourself into this controversy these people should sit back and improve the game in the country. If your basics are weak (OTA) how would you improve your game,” she added.

Last week, OTA was dissolved after eight of its board members were resigned protesting the disruptive performance of its chairman Majeed Al Asfoor.
