These places will now be obligated to provide e-payment service to consumers

Muscat: Several sales outlets will now be obliged to provide e-payment methods to customers, based on a decision taken by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) on Sunday.

Places that sell food items, restaurants and cafes are some of the facilities that are covered under this decision.

The decision includes the following shops and service providers:

* Commercial establishments and companies selling foodstuffs, selling gold and silverware, restaurants and cafes, selling vegetables and fruits, selling electronics, selling building materials, selling tobacco. All activities in industrial areas, complexes and malls.

For violations, the Ministry may impose any of the following administrative penalties:

1- A warning, obligating the violator to provide the electronic payment service within a period not exceeding 20 days.

2- An administrative fine of OMR 100.

Article three said that this decision shall be published in the Official Gazette, and shall come into force after 30 days from the date of its publication.
