Dust, heavy winds and rain forecast for parts of Oman

Muscat: A dust and heavy wind warning was issued by Oman's official meteorology department at the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) on Thursday, after they recorded a southwesterly wind blowing accompanied by dust, resulting in low horizontal visibility in the Wusta and Dhofar governorates.

"Currently, the continuation of the south-west winds is active in the governorates of Wusta and Dhofar, with rising dust and low horizontal vision. The station in Duqm recorded (winds at) 39 knots, Mazyona recorded 29 knots, and 28 knots in Al Jazir," PACA announced online.

The latest weather report showed cloudy skies along the coastal areas of Dhofar governorate and adjoining mountains with intermittent drizzle. "Mainly clear skies over the rest of the Sultanate with chances of convective clouds development with isolated rain and occasional thunderstorms over Al Hajar Mountains and the adjoining areas towards the afternoon. Chances of low-level clouds or fog patches along the coastal areas of the Arabian Sea during late night to early morning. Chances of blowing dust over the open areas of the governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates," the report added.

Seas along the coastal area of the Arabian Sea are also expected to be rough, with a maximum wave height 4.0 meters.
