5 most dangerous distracted driving habits

Distracted driving is any activity that takes your eyes off the road and could divert a person's attention away from the primary task of driving. Distracted driving endangers not only those behind the wheel but also their passengers, fellow road occupants and pedestrians. Countless distracting activities can divert driver attention and any one of them can increase the risk of a crash.
1. “Lost in thought” or daydreaming. Detaching from reality can be fatal and lead to car crashes. Treat driving as a complicated task requiring your full attention.
2. Using a cellphone or smartphone. Drivers should not use a cellphone, whether handheld or hands-free while behind the wheel. While many believe that hands-free phones are safer than handheld phones, numerous research studies, however proved otherwise.
3. Talking to passengers or looking at other people in the car may be just as dangerous for drivers as talking on a cellphone.
4. Grooming. Women who apply makeup while driving often adjust the rear-view mirror towards them and then use it to view their make-up. That significantly reduces your ability to scan traffic behind you and notice if you’re being tailgated.
5. Eating or drinking. Eating while driving is the worst form of distracted driving for a driver. Most near miss accidents are caused by distracted drivers fussing with food and drinks.
