MCBS Wins 2024 CFA Oman Investment Research Challenge

Two teams of MCBS students participated in the recently concluded research competition organized by the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) Institute, USA, and CFA Society Oman.

Abdul Salam Al Kaabi, Manal Al Taei, Zuhair Al Bahrani, Abdullah Al Sheibani, Riyadh AlRajhi, Munawar Ibrahim Azan Al Harthy, Ahmed Rashid Ahmed Al Busafi, and Aziza Al Habsi represented MCBS against contenders from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and the College of Banking and Financial Studies (CBFS).

One team from MCBS won the coveted CFA research challenge, and the winning team will now represent the Sultanate of Oman at the regional level, which is the second phase of the CFA research challenge in the Middle East and North Africa. The regional competition winner will compete in the Global Research Challenge in the United States.

The competition was launched on November 14, 2023, where the teams were instructed to research and analyze a publicly traded stock in the Muscat Securities Exchange. Each team was provided one industry mentor alongside Dr. Dharmendra Singh as the faculty coordinator.

The teams produced an initiation-of-coverage report on their assigned stock with a buy, sell, or hold recommendation and were asked to present and defend their thesis to a panel of industry experts. Throughout the competition, leading investment professionals volunteered as mentors and judges.

Congratulations to Team A (Abdul Salam Al Kaabi, Manal Al Taei, Zuhair Al Bahrani, Abdullah Al Sheibani, and Riyadh AlRajhi) for emerging the winners of the competition, besting SQU and CBFS. The team are now preparing for the next stage—the regional competition in the MENA.
