Muscat: Search and rescue efforts resulted in finding a body of girl of Asian nationality in a valley in the Wilayat of Saham, making the death toll from the current weather condition across the Sultanate of Oman reach 20.
In addition Police aviation carried out a rescue operation of six expatriates stuck on a farm due to overflowing valleys.
On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, evening, a number of governorates of the Sultanate of Oman witnessed heavy rains accompanied by strong winds, the highest reaching nearly 200 millimeters in some states of Buraimi Governorate. The heavy rains led to the descent of a number of valleys, drifting of vehicles, and dozens stranded in their homes.
Police aviation carried out 8 air sorties (operations) for more than 13 people, including rescuing people, transporting the injured, treating patients, and searching for missing persons. The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority's crews provided emergency medical care for two births in North Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah governorates.
Royal Navy of Oman in cooperation with the Coast Guard Police of the Royal Oman Police in the Musandam Governorate has carried out evacuation operations of people from different wilayats in Musandam Governorate.
Moreover, 18 shelter centres were activated in various governorates of the Sultanate, and more than 1,400 Omanis and residents have benefited from them.
The Search and Rescue Sector also carried out evacuation operations in the wilayats of Shinas and Buraimi. A total of 44 people have been rescued in the Wilayat of Shinas. A family of eight people were transferred to a shelter in Al Buraimi Governorate.
