More than 100 horses take part in the traditional horse show and equestrian events

Muscat: As part of the activities of the first Zad Al Rakeb Equestrian Forum, the Wilayat of Ibra in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate witnessed the participation of 100 horses in the traditional horse show and equestrian events.

Nasser bin Saeed Al Yazidi, Chairman of the Zad Al Rakeb Committee in Ibra and the organisers of the function, said that many hundreds of people from various wilayats of North Al Sharqiyah and the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, came together to encourage horse owners and horse breeders to participate in traditional sports because of their importance in preserving the famous tradition and heritage of the country, and forwarding the skills to the future generations.

Supervised by the Governor’s Office, Nasser bin Saeed stressed that the event was able to promote tourism and attract fans interested in horse racing from within the Sultanate of Oman and abroad.

The traditional horse show event, which was hosted by Zad Al Rakeb Square in the Wilayat of Ibra, included holding the traditional shows during which the participants demonstrated their skills on horseback, in addition to presenting their equestrian skills.

They demonstrated the skills of throwing a bow from the backs of horses, picking up pegs, and putting horses to sleep. The knights’ performance skills were accompanied by the participation of the Omani Arts Singing Troupe.

The event was sponsored by Mahmoud bin Yahya Al Dhahli, Governor of North Al Sharqiyah, in the presence of a number of Their Excellencies, officials of public and private sectors, and fans of traditional horse sports from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.

It is worth noting that the first Zad Al Rakeb Equestrian Forum will continue until the May 10 and will include the traditional ardha race, a poetry evening, and a number of training and technical workshops for horse breeding, in addition to the inauguration of the local market for horse supplies, and the organisation of tourist tours on horseback to a number of tourist places in the governorate.

The wilayats in the governorate are famous for horse breeding, training, and holding related events on a regular basis and in the various traditional horse sports.
