The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is a beacon symbolising the spirit of Islam. Holy inscriptions are set 2 centemetres deep in stone in the outer areas so they stay as long as the mosque remains standing. Timber panels and doors are adorned with intricately carved designs. Islamic embellishments topped by Quranic verses in Thuluth script are inscribed on pillars and arched doorways. Murals with leafy patterns decorate the wall panels. The artwork selection in the halls reflect the evolution of Omani interior design, influenced by patterns from Andalusia to China.
