Oman’s delegation was headed by Dr. Mohammed Said Al Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs.

The minister conveyed the greetings of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the conferees and his sincere wishes for the success of the summit.

Al Maamari pointed that the summit was held at a delicate moment and conditions that require member states to unite and enhance the quest for prosperity and sustainability that serve their respective peoples and the world at large.

He added that the Islamic world today needs to double efforts and devise effective initiatives and policies to address the common challenges.

In his speech, he laid emphasis on the importance of member states’ intensifying joint action to combat extremism, terrorism, discrimination, hatred and Islamophobia. He also underlined the importance of promoting values of tolerance and coexistence in the world.

In this context, Al Maamari expressed regret for the United Nations “Security Council’s failure to adopt resolutions on recognizing the State of Palestine, despite global consensus on Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and right to establish their independent state.”

Al Maamari said that the Sultanate of Oman always emphasizes its steadfast position at international and regional meetings in supporting the Palestinian cause.

The two-day conference discussed means of combating hate speech and Islamophobia, as well as economic, humanitarian, social and cultural challenges. It called for the promotion of dialogue among nations belonging to different civilizations in the world.
