Muscat: The State Council today hosted Mohammed Said Al Balushi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information and officials from the Ministry of Information to discuss with them the draft version of the new media law.
The state council was represented by the subcommittee emanating from the State Council’s Social and Cultural Committee, under the chairmanship of Dr. Abdullah Khamis Al Kindi, Chairman of the committee.
The discussions formed part of the State Council’s 6th meeting of its first convening during the 8th Term.
The draft media law seeks to accommodate updates and successive developments that occurred since the last time laws governing media practices were issued. The statute-to-be has been drafted as a uniform legislation that regulates the media sector in the Sultanate of Oman.
The deliberations covered various aspects, including the extent to which the provisions of the draft law would influence the media industry, improve Oman’s international rating in terms of freedom of expression and regulate the procedures governing the licensing of media-related practices.
