Oman and UAE varsities join hands to carry out projects

Muscat: It was agreed to carry out seven joint research projects during the 28th meeting of the joint committee of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) and UAE University (UAEU).
Heading the SQU delegation was Hon Dr. Hamed bin Suleiman Al Salmi, SQU Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administrative and Financial Affairs, while the UAEU delegation was headed by Professor Faeqa Hilal, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administrative Affairs. The meeting was held at Sultan Qaboos University.
Those at the meeting also agreed to begin various student activities, as well as joint research to be organized by the two universities.
The approved projects include atsunami hazard assessment for the coastal areas of Diba Oman and Diba Al Fujairah United Arab Emirates (Dr. Adel Mohamed El Shahat El-Hussain, SQU, and Dr. Khaled Ahmed Al Bloushi, UAEU); Deep desulfurization of liquid fuel in microchannels using deep eutectic solvents(Dr. Farouk Sabri Majali,SQU, and Dr. Basim Moh’d Abu-Jdayil,UAEU); Freshness evaluation of fish using electronic nose (E-nose) and electronic tongue (E-tongue), as compared to spectroscopic methods (Dr. Md Shafiur Rahman, SQU, and Dr. Sami Ghnimi,UAEU); The effect of some phytochemicals with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties on the mitigation of experimental chronic kidney disease in rats exposed to diesel exhaust particles(Prof. Badreldin Ali, SQU, and Prof. Abderrahim Nemmar, UAEU); Development of Energy Harvesting System for Vibrational Structures (Dr. Mojtaba Ghodsi, SQU and Dr. Samir Emam, UAEU); Research Obstacles in Higher Education Institutions in Oman and the United Arab Emirates: A Quantitative, Analytical and Comparative Study(Dr. Rahma Al-Mahrooqi, SQU, and Dr. Mohammed Abu Al-Ainain, UAEU); Harnessing solar energy and green chemical approaches for the degradation of endocrine disruptor chemicals present in ground and wastewater (Dr. Rengaraj Selvaraj,SQU, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Meetani, UAEU).
During the meeting, the joint committee reviewed the follow-up report for carrying out the recommendations of the previous meeting, and discussed progress in joint research projects and student activities. The meeting also reviewed student exchanges between the two universities.
