Massive gridlock reported at Oman-UAE borders

Muscat: A massive gridlock was reported at Oman-UAE borders, as many travellers said they have been waiting for a long time to pass checkpoints on Thursday, the first the day of the long weekend.

Motorists travelling to the neighbouring country complained of long waiting hours, while some advised people who plan a trip to the UAE to "to cancel it".

Issa Al Maiassi, an Omani resident, said he has spent more than an hour at the Khatmat Milaha checkpoint due to the traffic.

Oman had announced earlier that public and private sector companies and establishments would remain closed on May 5, on the occasion of the blessed Al Isra'a Wal Miraj.
