Two more Omanis die in UAE bus crash, toll rises to three

Muscat: An eight-year-old boy has died, along with a woman who suffered 95 per cent burns following a fatal bus crash on Wednesday morning in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The child is the third passenger to have died following the bus accident, according to the residents of the area .
One child was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while three other passengers remained in critical condition.
The woman who died in the crash was the aunt of the deceased child.
Officials report said that 23 injured passengers were transported to Kalba Hospital near Al Shariqah (Sharjah), UAE, some 200 kilometres from the Omani border.
Iran trip
The bus, carrying a number of Omanis who were returning from a trip to Iran, was heading towards Oman when the accident occurred at about 7am on Wednesday.
Officials report said that the bus driver, who is the father of the dead baby boy, was unable to prevent the bus from rolling over after it careered out of control and flipped onto its side.
News of the accident went viral on social media, as many expressed their sympathies to the families of the dead and injured.
Oman embassy officials in the UAE headed to Kalba Hospital to evaluate the conditions of the injured, and to determine whether the Omanis could be transferred to hospitals in the Sultanate. “The embassy sent an official to check the conditions of the injured to decide about transporting them to Oman,” said an official at the embassy.
The casualties include bus passengers with severe burns and broken bones, according to the passengers’ relatives.
Al Shariqah police said they were alerted about the accident at 7am on Wednesday, and immediately dispatched rescue teams and paramedics.
