Oman title hopes end in goalless draw, Saudi Arabia assured of GCC U-23 crown

Muscat: Oman wasted a handful of scoring opportunities as they were forced to settle for a goalless draw by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the ongoing GCC Olympic (Under-23) Football Championship in the Qatari capital of Doha on Wednesday.
The Sultanate squad have completed their engagements in the five-team championship and the result shattered Hamad Al Azzani-coached Omanis hopes of winning the title as they finished with seven points from four games.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia fightback from a goal down to beat Bahrain 3-1 for their third successive victory and assure themselves of the title.
With nine points from three games, the Saudis are perched on the top of the table and they will not be dislodged from that position even if they lose their final game against Qatar on Saturday.
Even a victory for the UAE, who now have four points from three games, against a lowly Bahrain on the same day will not affect the overall standings, though the former still have a chance to clinch the second place ahead of Oman.
