Girl injured in Sur car incident to be shifted to Khoula Hospital

Muscat: Gazal Mohammed, the four-year-old girl pulled from a burning car a week ago, opened her eyes on wednesday when medics removed bandages, according to her uncle.
Little Gazal and her brother Sulaiman were hauled to safety by an Omani hero who saved the toddlers from certain death after their family car caught fire in a Sur petrol station.

At around 10:30am on wednesday, in Sur Hospital, Gazal showed tentative signs of recovery from the burn injuries she received, her uncle said, adding: “She has opened her eyes.” Mahmood Atiyah, added: “Thank God. The hospital will be transferring her today to Khoula Hospital.”
Gazal sustained 75 per cent burns after she and her brother Sulaiman were pulled from the burning car at a petrol station in Sur last Wednesday.
Rescuer Mohammed Al Hashmi had raced to the smoke-filled vehicle and single-handedly rescued both children after their father, who had left them to buy groceries, raised the alarm.
The boy, Sulaiman Mohammed, was transferred to Khoula hospital last Thursday.
Doctors at Khoula Hospital told the parents their son is getting better. Now it’s a waiting game to see if brave Gazal can win her battle of life.
Monitoring condition
Khoula hospital’s specialists were monitoring Gazal’s condition on a daily basis and were waiting for her condition to improve in order to transfer her to Muscat.
“We are all happy that both children will be under the specialist burn unit in Khoula hospital. We thank everyone who prayed for them and ask them to pray more so Gazal and Sulaiman go back home to Sur to see their brother and sister,” said the uncle.
Mohammed Al Hashmi, the Omani hero who rescued two Jordanian children from a burning car at a fuel station in Sur, wants everyone to pray for the speedy recovery of the injured children.
“I did it without expecting anything in return. Almighty gave me the power to act at that moment. Now, I don’t want any gifts, job offers or honouring. I only want everyone to pray for the injured children,” Al Hashmi told Times of Oman.
Al Hashmi has been honoured by petrol station bosses in Sur where his bravery saved the life of Sulaiman Mohammed, the three-year-old boy, and his four-year-old sister Gazal Mohammed.
