Oman's consumer watchdog claws back cash to the public

Muscat: More than OMR 11,000 has been reimbursed by the Department of Consumer Protection in Wilayat Seeb during August 2016.

The Department of Consumer Protection in Wilayat Seeb was able to retrieve OMR 11,812.9 for several consumers during August of this year as a response to the complaints received from the consumers.

According to data issued by the complaints department, the total amount retrieved was OMR 8262.9 from different industries and sectors where the aluminum, blacksmith and carpentry workshops topped the list with ORM 2550 retrieved followed by travel and tourism services with OMR 1359 retrieved.

OMR 1188 was retrieved from spare parts industries followed by OMR 438 from barbershops and beauty salons.

OMR 365 was also retrieved from vehicle repair workshops and around OMR 2362.9 from service industries.

The fines issued summed up to OMR 3550 for difference of the prices between those displayed and charged, for selling prohibited products, failure to print production and expiry dates on products, weights of products differing from what is printed, raising the predetermined price of products, services and other violations.
