Heavyweights lead index drop on Muscat bourse

Muscat: Selling pressure in index heavyweights weighed on the MSM 30 Index which declined 0.39 per cent to close at 5,726.16 points. The MSM Shariah Index closed at 874.98 points, down 0.07 per cent.
HSBC Bank was the most active in terms of volume while Ooredoo led in terms of turnover. Ahli Bank was the day’s top gainer, up 2.11 per cent, while Renaissance Services was top loser, down 3.36 per cent.
As many as 620 trades were executed on Wednesday, generating a turnover of OMR3.05 million with 12.5 million shares changing hands. Out of 37 traded securities, 6 advanced, 16 declined and 15 remained unchanged. At the close of the session, Omani investors were net buyers to the tune of 649,000 worth os shares, while foreign investors, who were net sellers, sold stocks amounting to OMR393,000 followed by GCC ad Arab investors at OMR256,000.
Financial Index retreated 0.39 per cent to close at 7,373.36 points. Ahli Bank, Bank Nizwa and Bank Muscat gained 2.11 per cent, 1.30 per cent and 1.01 per cent respectively. DBIH, Ominvest, Bank Dhofar, Al Izz Bank and Oman & Emirates Holding decreased 2.27 per cent, 2.17 per cent, 2.16 per cent, 1.56 per cent and 1.46 per cent respectively.
Industrial Index ended at 7,417.01 points, marginally lower by 0.05 per cent. Galfar Engineering and Gulf International Chemicals advanced 0.98 per cent and 0.76 per cent respectively. Oman Fisheries, Oman Flour Mills and Al Anwar Ceramics had losses of 1.56 per cent, 0.62 per cent and 0.50 per cent respectively.
Services Index ended negatively at 3,109.42 per cent, down 0.37 per cent. OIFC, up 0.51 per cent was only gainer. Renaissance Services, Ooredoo, Port Services, Phoenix Power and Omantel lost 3.36 per cent 1.13 per cent, 0.83 per cent, 0.68 per cent and 0.32 per cent respectively.
