OAMC hires Turkish firm as food and beverages service provider for Muscat Airport

Muscat: A new food and beverage (F&B) service provider will be serving the Muscat International Airport for the next decade, the Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) has announced.
OAMC signed an agreement with Turkish company BTA to provide food and beverage services to Muscat International Airport passengers for the next decade. Sheikh Aimen Al Hosni, CEO of OAMC, said the agreement is based on the strategy put in line for 2020, which is aimed at ranking Oman airports among the top 20 in the world.
Al Hosni said, “BTA was chosen based on strict criteria with regards to quality and commitment to hospitality and reception, in addition it its global reputation, which has qualified them to win the contract for the next 10 years.”
BTA will manage the food and beverage scene at the airport, which covers an area of 5,000 square metres, while 15 per cent of the area will be managed by SMEs (small and medium enterprises) to encourage an environment of competition with bigger companies.
“The agreement states that 15 per cent of the area shall be reserved for local SMEs. This will encourage SMEs to work closely with big international companies, which in turn will have a positive impact on their performance and experience, as well as grow competitively both locally and internationally in this sector.”
With passenger numbers expected to rise, Sheikh Samer Al Nabhani, general manager of Commercial Operations said, “We expect to see a leap in the number of passengers passing through the Muscat International Airport.”
“Therefore, we have to ensure that they are provided with the best possible hospitality, reception and services in the food and beverage corner,” he added.
