Water research awards launched by Oman's research council

Muscat: A new honour is out for innovations in water science.
The Research Council (TRC) announced, in collaboration with Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science and the Ministry of Education, the launching of the Research and Innovations Award in Water Science, within the Strategic Programme for Water Research Award. Registration is on ends on January 31.
Applications must be submitted through the website of TRC www.trc.gov.om. The results will be announced on March 22nd, 2017 within the celebration of World Water Day.
The award aims to promote the role of scientific research and innovation in finding solutions to the issues of water and raise awareness of the areas of water resource management.
The award is divided into two categories, the scientific publication and the innovations.
The first category (scientific publication) includes the two sections of the researchers: PhDs holders and non-PhD holders (young researchers).
The prize money for both sections is RO (4000). This category includes published research in refereed journals.
The application of the two types are done separately and shall meet some requirements, including the subject of the published research is important and related to the needs of the Sultanate in the field of water.
The application must be submitted in the name of the first Author of the published research and the topic should not be part of academic thesis (MSc or PhD).
The research should be authentic, contributes to the knowledge of water sciences, and exhibit a potential for application.
The research must be published after 2012 in an indexed refereed scientific journal, at the time of publication, or in one of the Arabic periodicals listed in the Award’s website.
Each applicant is allowed to submit only one application as leader author for the award and the published research must not have won any other award in Oman or internationally. The researchers are required to provide any information that may be requested by TRC. The applicants must provide a no-objection statement from their research team members with regard to the participation in the award.
The evaluation committee’s decision shall be considered final and no objection in this regard will be entertained. The award can be withheld from any submitted research, if it does not quite live up to the required level according to the opinion of the evaluation committee.
The requirements for the second category (innovation category) in the areas of water (innovative emerging) included that the application should contain a good description that is understandable and clear about the product or service that address a current challenge in the water issues in Oman.
The announcement of the Research and Innovations Award in Water Science comes in implementation of one of the recommendations of the 3rd Symposium of Sultan Qaboos Scientific Chairs, organized by the Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science (2-3 October, 2014), at University of Tokyo, Japan, and was entitled "Water Resources Management for Sustainable Development".
