Muscat: Young Omani talent Mohammed Al Habsi reigned supreme in Micro Max Class in the Round 9 of UAE Rotax Max Challenge on Saturday.
According to news posted on www.dubaiautodrome.com, Mohamed Al Habsi was untouchable in the Micro Max Class at Dubai Kartdrome as he powered to pole position and then won all three races to take home maximum points.
All the action was behind him as several drivers battled it out for places on the podium. In the end, after three nail-biting races, Daman Speed Academy’s Ali Al Shamsi emerged best of the rest in second ahead of Georgie Zouein in third.
According to the report, Pascal Pook won in the premier Max Class, with Tehmur Chohan tops in the Max Junior Class, Saeed Al Ali winning the DD2 Class, Kevin Day winner of the DD2 Masters and Lachlan Robinson top scoring in the Mini Max.
Pascal Pook was unbeatable all day in the Max Class, qualifying on pole and then winning all three races. He won the first race convincingly, but was pushed all the way by Jakob Robinson in Race 2 and then by Oman’s Sanad Al Rawahi in Race 3. Robinson was second overall with Al Rawahi third.
Pook said afterwards: “It was a good day of racing for me. Winning all three heats is great for the championship, and with three races to go it is important to be collecting as many points as possible.”
Saeed Al Ali and Sanad Al Rawahi slugged it out all day in the DD2 Class with Al Rawahi winning Race 1, but Daman Speed Academy driver Al Ali bounced back to claim top spot in the next two races and thus claimed overall victory on the day. Al Rawahi was second and Kevin Day third, which was enough for him to take maximum points in the DD2 Master Class ahead of Tony Hogg.
Tehmur Chohan’s strong vein of form continued as he took top honours in the Junior Max Class. In qualifying, where the field was separated by a mere three quarters of a second, Chohan claimed pole position and then went on to win the first two races by impressive margins. Tehmur then went on to finish second in Race 3 behind Taymour Kermanshahchi who was second overall with Oman’s Khalid Al Wahaibi third best.
Abu Dhabi schoolgirl Hamda Al Qubaisi claimed a popular victory in Race 1 of the Mini Max Class after fending off a concerted challenge from Lachlan Robinson and Ziggy Kermanshahchi.
After a disqualification in Race 1, Shihab Al Habsi bounced back to take wins in the next two races, but overall victory went to Robinson whose three, second place finishes was enough to take top spot on the podium on the day. Kermanshahchi was second and Al Qubaisi third.
Special mention goes to young debutant Keanu Al Azhari, son of multiple UAE champion Karim Al Azhari, who impressed in his rookie race beating several of the regulars and announcing his arrival on the Micro max stage in fine style.
In the Bambino Class, where the youngest drivers battled it out in three Time Trials, Harry Hannam was fastest in the first two time trials and Filippo Parmeggiani claiming top spot on the timing sheets in the third time trial.
