Muscat: Net electricity generation in Oman during the first quarter of 2016 registered a year-on-year growth of 9.1 per cent to reach 5,926.7GW per hour as against 5,429.9GW per hour produced last year, according to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The Sultanate’s first quarter gross electricity generation rose 9.2 per cent to 6,199.6GW per hour compared to 5,677.5GW per hour achieved during the same quarter of 2015.
Meanwhile, Oman’s water production last year surged 4.2 per cent to 336.856 million cubic metres compared with 323.149 million cubic metres in the previous year. (Figures for first quarter of 2016 yet to be released.)
Net electricity generated in the Governorate of Dhofar reported a 14 per cent increase during the period with output reaching 675.2GW per hour while the Governorate of A'Dakhiliyah stepped up its output by 7.6 per cent to 228.7 GW per hour.
The Governorate of Musandam logged a production growth of 6.9 per cent to touch 48.8GW per hour while the Governorates of North and South Al Batinah and the Governorate of A'Dhahirah together achieved a 25 per cent increase in net electricity production at 3,253.7GW per hour.
However, net electricity output in the Governorates of North and South A'Sharqiyah witnessed a decline of 23.5 per cent to 594.7GW per hour while a six per cent fall in production in the Governorate of Muscat brought down net electricity output to 1,058.4GW per hour during the period. The Governorate of Al Wusta too recorded a 7.5 per cent drop in production at 67.2GW per hour.
Net electricity production last year stood at 32,081.1GW per hour.
Water production in the Governorate of Muscat rose 78.3 per cent last year to 156.6 million cubic metres compared to 2014 figures while the Governorate of Dhofar recorded a 5.2 per cent fall at 37.62 million cubic metres. Other governorates together logged a 27.1 per cent drop in water production generating 142.63 million cubic metres last year.
